The 2024 Craft Butcher Expo took place on Sunday 28 January at The Curragh Racecourse in County Kildare, Ireland. This trade fair focuses primarily on companies that supply butchers, shops and restaurants with seasonings with which they can enhance the flavour and value of their meat products. A wide selection of Dutch Spices’ inclusive seasonings could be tasted on the very busy stand of the Company’s Irish partner.
Inspirational sauces for the 2024 summer and barbecue season
What sauce flavours and concepts will be on trend for barbecues this coming summer? And what are the underlying influences? In an earlier article we told you all about the herb and spice mixes and marinades that are expected to be popular in the summer of 2024. In this article we are talking about the sauces.
Popular taste trends
There will be several popular flavour groups and directions for the 2024 summer season. The favourites include fruit flavours, chocolate and exotic flavours. The more specific popular flavours include spicy, garlic, smoked, tomato, barbecue, coconut, paprika, herbs & spices, lemon and ginger.
Surprising spare ribs
It’s a well-known fact that glazing spare ribs improves their taste. And Dutch Spices has seasonings that will add flavour to spare ribs during the coming summer barbecue season.
Create an exotic spare rib rub with the Dutch Spices chocolate style coconut sauce. The combination of exotic ingredients and chocolate, plus coconut, paprika and garlic guarantees an unforgettable, attention-getting burst of flavour.
A pulled pork or jackfruit quiche for the BBQ
Vegetarian barbecue concepts are also following the trends. The inspiring concepts we have developed include this quiche which can be prepared using either a meat (such as pulled pork), or a meat replacement (such as jackfruit).
Dutch Spices’ sweet rhubarb sauce dovetails perfectly with the current trends. Not only due to its exceptional fruity flavour (rhubarb), but also because paprika and garlic are popular tastes.
Barbecues need (dipping) sauces
One of the emerging flavour combinations is garlic plus a spicy ingredient. As long as the taste isn’t too complex every generation will find it finger-licking delicious.
The traditional colour of a garlic sauce is a pale yellow. So the colour of the Dutch Spices chilli roasted garlic style sauce gives no indication that it is, in fact, a garlic sauce. The second surprise is the taste – roasted garlic combined with mildly spicy ingredients.
Another flavoursome chicken (dipping) sauce
The fruity flavour of pineapple combines well with spicy ingredients. Both flavours are enjoyed by all generations and complement a wide variety of barbecue concepts, such as chicken products.
These characteristics come together well in the Dutch Spices pineapple jalapeño sauce – a mildly spicy sauce that, thanks to the pineapple, is also sweet. A good way to show what you can do and make an impression.
Hamburger sauces and chutneys
Herb and spice mixes add flavour to burgers made of meat or a meat replacement. Complementary sauces enhance the overall experience when you consciously choose ingredients that complement or enhance each other.
Dutch Spices jalapeño chutney combines the sweetness of paprika and onion with the mild spiciness of jalapeño.
Dutch Spices coconut chutney pairs sweet pineapple with coconut and a hint of chilli.
Dutch Spices mango chipotle sauce is both mildly spicy and sweet thanks to the flavour combination of mango and smoked paprika.
Every year Dutch Spices offers its customers two inspiration reports focused on a variety of applications. To ascertain the latest trends our Research & Development department looks at various factors that influence movements in nutritional and taste fashions and inclinations. These can be social trends or megatrends in nutrition, but they can also be themes such as transition and taste directions. The results of the research form the basis for the development of innovative products and concepts.
