A passion for new product development
Peter Curry, Managing Director of Gastrome Professional Ingredients in Ireland, is a classically-trained chef with more than 30 years experience in the catering industry. His passion for new product development has led to a fruitful cooperation with Dutch Spices. With today’s consumers yearning for new flavours and, at the same time, demanding more healthy and safe food options, Peter Curry’s expertise is just what is needed.
Curry: “My affinity with the meat industry made a collaboration with Dutch Spices easy. Gastronome Professional Ingredients focuses on the creation of valuable food products with allergen-safe sauces, marinades and dry mixtures. After extensive research I decided to approach Dutch Spices and we started distributing its products in Ireland. These products are supplied, successfully, to butchers, fishmongers and even food companies that produce for retailers. The focus is on support: from product development to the end product. And, even more important, on offering allergen-safe options that look appetising and taste delicious.”
Growing awareness
According to Curry, Dutch Spices is a great success in Ireland: “That can be attributed to a growing awareness of food quality and safety. Together with Dutch Spices we are expanding our customer base every week. Trust plays a crucial role in this. Customers have total confidence in the quality and safety of the products. The support of Piet Buis, the Export Unit Manager of Epos Food Family, and the Company’s dedicated marketing and R&D teams have also contributed towards this success. Together we want to create more awareness about allergen-safe nutrition in Ireland and other countries. We want to remain at the forefront of new flavour concepts.”
Jonny West, better known as butchery influencer Butcher Westy, is responsible for the Dutch Spices brand in England on behalf of the English meat wholesaler DB Foods. For the past decade Westy has focused on working in the butcher shop, creating store displays and added-value concepts. In 2019 he decided to share his expertise via Instagram. He has now built-up a global community of over 14,000 followers. Westy: “I had several options, but chose Dutch Spices after tasting and working with some samples of their products. What makes the collaboration so special is the fact that all the Dutch Spices products are safe from the 14 legally designated allergens. I have celiac disease – a disease of the immune system that means you cannot tolerate gluten – so for me Dutch Spices really is a solution.”
Unparalleled product value
According to Westy, Dutch Spices is really starting to become a household name in England: “I’ve given demonstrations all over the UK and the products have always been received enthusiastically by butchers. The high quality, keen prices and visually-appealing products have ensured customer satisfaction. They really do come back for the products. The value of Dutch Spices’ products is simply unparalleled. The top-class marinades and sauces offer quality that customers appreciate time and time again. Expansion into new markets, a wider audience and the development of new allergen-safe flavours are on the horizon.”
